Head coach Jacob Osborne’s team graduated a large senior class and also experienced a couple of unexpected departures, leaving openings throughout the lineup. That change creates a new challenge, but it also gives returning players and newcomers a meaningful chance to step into larger roles. Carthage had good turnout during the summer, providing an encouraging starting point as the Tigers work to determine how their pieces will fit together.

The work done in the summer can be especially valuable for a group preparing to replace a sizable senior class. Hamilton Solis is one player positioned to be an important part of that process. The defender logged a decent amount of varsity minutes previously, including time in some of Carthage’s bigger games. That exposure gives him a useful understanding of the pace and responsibility that come with varsity soccer. Solis also has an impressive ability to read a play before it happens, a skill that can help the Tigers organize and respond on the defensive end.

His awareness will be important as Carthage builds a defensive unit with new faces and new responsibilities. Solis has the chance to provide that kind of presence while taking on a larger role.

The Tigers’ season will be shaped by how quickly their players embrace the openings in front of them. Osborne has a group with summer participation, players eager to earn roles and a returning defender who has already experienced meaningful varsity moments. As the lineup develops, Carthage’s focus will be on turning that opportunity into a cohesive team that competes together and continues improving throughout the season.
