The Webb City Cardinals enter the volleyball season with five returning starters and confidence that continued hard work and dedication can help them successfully fill the gaps left by graduation. Head coach Rhonda Lawrence’s team has a blend of established varsity contributors and emerging players ready to take on greater responsibility. That balance should give the Cardinals a solid framework as they refine their lineup and pursue another productive season.
Jaylee VanBeceleare is one of the program’s most experienced and impactful returners. A three-year varsity player who plays all six rotations, VanBeceleare made an important contribution to the Cardinals’ success last season. She served at 88 percent, collected 51 aces and finished third on the team in kills. She also handles serve receive in every rotation, putting her in frequent contact with the ball and making her a key part of the team’s all-around rhythm.
Webb City uses a balanced offense to score points, and VanBeceleare’s value reflects the importance of every contact that builds an attack. The final kill often earns attention, but the passing, serving and transition touches that precede it are just as important. With her confidence continuing to return, VanBeceleare is positioned to help the Cardinals maintain their success.
Skye Lofland is another player trending upward. She brings a high vertical and quick arm swing, and she improved enough last year to make the varsity bench. Her continued growth during spring club season, competitive fire and visible joy as a teammate make her an exciting piece of the puzzle. Avery Pogue steps in as the returning setter after serving as the second setter behind Savannah Crane. Pogue is also a standout defensive player, an uncommon and valuable combination for a setter. Her competitiveness and ability to handle pressure were important last season and will be key again.
Right-side hitter and blocker Jocelyn Maxwell adds leadership through example. A 4.0-plus student, she is willing to take responsibility, encourages teammates and brings a genuine, thoughtful presence to the group. With experienced returners, developing talent and leaders who value every part of the game, Webb City has the tools to meet its new challenges together.
