Q&A with Webb City’s Shawn Klosterman – Team Spotlight – Presented by State Farm’s Kyle Hickam

Webb City girls swimming coach Shawn Klosterman spoke with Prep Sports in an interview.

PRPE SPORTS: What are the goals of the team this season?

Winning the COC is always a goal, but we also want to get as many athletes qualified for state as we can.

PREP SPORTS: What was the team’s best moment from last season?

Last year we won the COC and broke several team records, but those weren’t even the biggest accomplishment…  2023 was the first year we have ever won the SWMO Championship.  We never even considered that a possibility until we got through with the prelims.  Historic for the program for sure.

PREP SPORTS: Who is the team’s dynamic duo, and why?

I would say that title goes to Avery Mitchell and Alix Davis.  They both swim the sprint freestyles and often take 1-2 finishes in dual meets.  They are key splits on whatever relays we put them on.

PREP SPORTS: What is the team’s favorite memory together?

They have fun on our overnight trips for sure.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of working with this team?

My favorite part is that these girls are such good teammates.  They all get along.  They plan events away from the pool together.  No drama, even with 27 girls on the roster.  They are all just so supportive and they make sure everyone has a positive experience being on the team.

PREP SPORTS: Does the team participate in any community service projects?

Not this year.

PREP SPORTS: Are your players involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?

Several but I don’t have a list.  Swimming tends to attract the kids who stay on top of their grades and like to get involved.
