Carthage’s Kenzie Parker – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Matt Sappington Shelter Insurance

Kenzie Parker, a senior at Carthage High School, has built her softball career on something simple but powerful: joy. Whether she’s fielding at second base or stepping up to the challenge at third, Parker plays with a sense of energy that lifts both her performance and her teammates.

“Humor and laughter are something that motivates me. I find myself having fun and succeeding a lot better with a smile on my face.”

That mindset has helped her thrive in high-pressure situations, including one of the most memorable moments of her career. After being placed at third base, a position she had never played before, Parker rose to the occasion. In a single inning, she recorded all three outs herself, handling a line drive and two ground balls with confidence.

Beyond individual highlights, Parker emphasizes team success over personal stats. She believes the key to winning lies in trust and unity.

“Working for the team and not for myself. You have to work with your teammates to be able to succeed rather than just focusing on yourself and how you are playing.”

That team-first mentality is rooted in the influence of her family, who have consistently pushed her to reach her full potential.

“My parents and my brother are my biggest influences and role models because they push me to the highest level, because they believe in me and know I can reach my goals and succeed in life.”

Parker also credits Mrs. Hitchcock, a teacher who inspired her future career path in education, with helping guide her along the way.

On the field, competition fuels her drive, especially when facing rival Joplin. Off the field, she balances a full schedule that includes National Honor Society and Link Crew, staying focused during school hours to manage the demands of late-night games.

Through it all, Parker represents Carthage with pride, competing fiercely while maintaining strong sportsmanship. For her, softball is more than a game, it’s a community built on friendship, effort, and heart.
