Carthage Boys Track – Team Spotlight – Presented by Matt Sappington Shelter Insurance

The Carthage Tigers boys track team enters the season with a mix of youth, ambition, and quiet confidence under Head Coach Braden McBride. While the roster may be young overall, a strong junior class provides stability and momentum, setting the tone for a group eager to prove itself on the track this spring.

At the center of that leadership are Senior Brody Jackson and Junior Henry Laytham, the team’s two returning state qualifiers. Both athletes bring experience, work ethic, and a team-first mentality that have helped shape the culture early in the season. Their presence has given younger runners a clear example of what it takes to compete at a high level.

Henry Laytham stands out as one of the team’s biggest strengths. A returning state medalist, he finished third in the 800 meters last year and has set even higher goals for himself this season. Known as the team’s high point earner, Henry continues to push his limits in pursuit of both personal bests and school records.

“I know what it takes to get on that podium now, and I want to build on that,” Laytham said.

Brody Jackson complements that drive with consistency and leadership of his own. After qualifying for state in the 300 hurdles, he returns as a dependable competitor and a steady influence in both meets and practices. Teammates and coaches alike recognize his commitment and positive attitude.

“Brody does everything the right way. He’s the kind of athlete every coach wants,” McBride said.

Coach Braden McBride believes the combination of experienced leaders and hungry younger athletes gives the Tigers a unique edge as the season progresses. The team may still be developing, but the foundation is clearly in place.

“We’re young, but we’re improving every day. With leaders like Henry and Brody, the future is bright,” McBride said.

As the Carthage Tigers continue their season, the blend of emerging talent and proven leadership suggests that this group is not just building for the future, they’re ready to compete right now.
