Jasper’s Baylor Rush – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Matt Sappington Shelter Insurance

Baylor Rush is already making a name for himself at Jasper High School, and he’s only getting started. A freshman competing in baseball, football, and basketball, Rush brings a rare mix of versatility and maturity to every team he joins. On the baseball field, where he plays first base and pitcher, he’s already earned a major milestone, starting at first base on the varsity squad during his first year of high school.

“Starting first base on varsity my freshman year has been my highlight so far.”

Rush’s early success isn’t by accident. It’s built on discipline, long hours, and a commitment to improving every day. Whether he’s training in the offseason or competing during the year, he understands what it takes to keep progressing.

“A lot of dedication and hard work is what it takes to be successful.”

That drive is fueled by the people around him. Rush credits his teammates, coaches, and family as the foundation of his motivation, pushing him to keep going even when things get tough. Among those influences, one stands out the most—his older brother.

“My older brother Braden is my biggest role model. I grew up watching him play and wanted to be just like him.”

At Jasper, Rush has also found guidance in coaches who challenge him to grow beyond just athletics. Coach Nash and Coach McFarland have played a key role in shaping his mindset both on and off the field, reinforcing the importance of accountability and effort.

“They push me to be better on and off the field.”

Even as one of the youngest players on the team, Rush embraces competition, especially in practice. Going up against older, more experienced teammates has helped accelerate his development and sharpen his skills.

“The seniors push me to be better every day.”

Off the field, Rush stays involved in Future Farmers of America and keeps his focus on academics, knowing that success in the classroom is just as important as performance in sports.

“Discipline is everything. You have to have good grades to be able to play.”

With pride in representing his school and community, Rush plays for something bigger than himself each time he steps onto the field.

“It means a lot to represent Jasper. I take pride in being a Jasper Eagle.”
