East Newton’s Kolt Walters won our poll for Outstanding Boys Basketball Player with 30,000 votes from the community. Each poll winner is then featured in their own article where we spotlight that athlete’s life and accomplishments.
When we spoke with Walters he said that basketball has taught him “To work hard, nothing ever will just be given to you. If you want something done, you have to work hard for it”. Something he puts into practice alongside his fellow Patriots saying “My favorite part of being on this team is that we are all so close, it is like a family. We go through the tough losses and great wins together and always have each other’s back”.
This year, Walters is working “to help lead my team to a district championship. Then, go to baseball season and lead that team to a district championship as well. After tearing my ACL last year during basketball, I was ready to be back to playing.”
When asked what or who inspires him Walters responded by saying “My parents, they have worked so hard to give me everything I have. They have been there through everything and have always sacrificed their time to come and see me achieve my goals. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them, and I appreciate everything they do”.
He also took a moment to thank his parents stating “for being there for me all the time and being my biggest supporter”. Walters on to shout out his “teammates for always having my back and picking me up whenever I need it. I want to say thank you to my coaches for making me a better player and constantly pushing me to better myself”.
