Brody Eggleston – Webb City High School-Football Spotlight-Presented by State Farm Kyle Hickman

Webb City’s Brody Eggleston, a senior safety for the Cardinals, is just excited for one last ride – but this time, he would like to see the road extend just a little bit farther, “I’m looking forward to playing with my guys one last time. Most of us have been together since we first wore pads in the third grade. And I’m looking forward to hopefully playing in a state championship. We have the guys, and once we get rolling, we have a chance to get there.”
That is not just wishful thinking. The Cardinals finished 10-3 last season, placing 2nd in the COC and eventually suffering a heartbreaking 21-20 loss to Republic in the state semifinals. But they return a large host of seasoned veterans who have state championship experience as freshmen. The Cardinals have the capability to potentially make that run again, and Eggleston is prepared to lead the charge, “I see myself as a leader – someone that people can look up to and see how things should be done. I remember how much the seniors helped me my freshman year, so I’m trying to be that same role model for our younger guys.”
It’s easy to see why his younger teammates might look up to him. Eggleston has the numbers to back up what he says. When asked about statistics, he replied, “I try not to look at my stats because I want to figure out what I can do to execute my role for that week the best I can, instead of trying to see how many tackles I can get.” Still, the numbers are impressive. As a safety, Brody recorded an eye-popping 98 tackles, to go along with 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and an improbable 3 blocked PAT’s.
“I worked hard this off-season to get bigger and stronger. I’ve put on a lot of good weight, so I’m excited. We’re having a good summer, and it seems like people are buying in. I’m looking forward to this season. My ultimate goal is to get Webb another state championship. I grew up watching them win championships, and I just want to see our class continue that legacy.”

Eggleston also plays baseball for the Cardinals and played basketball his freshman and sophomore years. Brody boasts a healthy 3.7 GPA in the classroom and would love to continue to play football collegiately and obtain a degree in construction management.
