Evan Stevens, a senior track star for the Webb City Cardinals, is already a highly decorated student-athlete. Stevens is looking forward to one last chance in high school to add to his trophy case. Evan is already an All-State competitor in both Cross Country and Track and Field, with a state championship in track at 3200 meters. Now, Stevens is just looking for the cherry to top off an already stellar career: “Going into this season, I looked forward to improving my marks and being named All-State in all of my events. We also have the potential to break our 4x800m school record. Enjoying my final high school season with my teammates and coaches is of the utmost priority.”
Maybe even more that his accomplishments in competition, Stevens wants to leave a legacy, “I aspire to be a role model, especially to my younger teammates. By setting a good example on and off the track, I hope to have an impact on the people and athletes they will become. If I can have a positive influence on the next generation, I believe that is the best way to affect the future of our school and program.”
Because of his level of success, Stevens, who was a multi-sport athlete for years, had to make some tough decisions, “Making the decision to switch to running full-time was certainly not a small one. I fell in love with competing and enjoying every game – football, basketball, and baseball – alongside my teammates; however, running has led me to places that I never thought possible.”
Besides competition in sports, Stevens has many diverse interests. He was a four-year member of Webb City’s Student Council and a two-year member of the National Honor Society.
Evan will attend Arkansas State University next fall, and will compete in Cross Country and Track and Field. He plans to major in Pre-Medicine with aspirations to become a doctor.
