The Lockwood Tigers enter the new season after an 11-1 campaign with a veteran backfield and a defense built around players who have accumulated significant varsity experience. Head coach Clay Lasater begins his 23rd year at the school with a group that has multiple seniors who have contributed since their freshman seasons. That continuity should give Lockwood a confident foundation as it works to build on last fall’s success.
The Tigers’ offensive strength begins in the backfield. Senior quarterback Landry Ogden returns as an All-State player, providing leadership and experience at a position that shapes every offensive possession. Fellow senior Roper Gray returns at fullback, while senior Sean Contreras is back as a tailback. The three have been key varsity contributors for several years, and their familiarity should help Lockwood play with poise and consistency.
All-State tight end Talan Richter is another major returning piece. His presence adds to an offense that also includes senior wide receivers Contreras and Braxton Garver, senior offensive lineman Koen Lilienkamp, junior running back Oliver Boehne and junior offensive lineman Alfred Douglas. That group gives the Tigers experienced leadership at quarterback, multiple backfield options and a blend of skill players and linemen prepared to contribute.
Defensively, Gray returns as an All-State linebacker and Contreras as an All-State defensive back. Ogden, Contreras and Gray each bring varsity experience dating to their freshman seasons. Richter and junior Elijah Beard form an experienced defensive-line tandem, while junior Drew Pittsenbarger and senior Silas Huber join Gray at linebacker. The ability to return players who have handled major roles in multiple seasons should be a defining advantage for Lockwood.
Lasater will work alongside assistants Sam Sconce, Reese Fyfe and Caleb Robertson to guide a roster that knows what varsity football requires. The Tigers do not need to build their identity from the ground up; they can refine an established one. With Ogden directing the offense, Gray and Contreras supplying two-way leadership, and experienced players across the defensive front and linebacker corps, Lockwood has the pieces to remain disciplined, physical and connected from week to week. The focus will remain on daily improvement, positive leadership and doing the small things that help the entire team move forward together.
