Webb City junior Alex Fisher has built his golf game on the same steady support system that shapes his life off the course his parents, his girlfriend and his teammates.
Fisher said his parents are the ones who inspire him every day, especially when it comes to golf. His dad’s message is simple: always have fun, whether it is a practice round or a tournament. “He always tells me to have a good time and to enjoy it,” Fisher said. His mom reinforces that mindset, reminding him not to be nervous or upset about what happens when he plays and to keep the game in perspective.
Another steady voice is his girlfriend, who sends him good-luck messages before practices and tournaments. “That makes me feel assured and confident about myself and it allows me to play better,” Fisher said. Away from competition, he enjoys spending time with his family and girlfriend, whether that means taking a day away from the game or bringing them along for nine holes with his dad. His favorite course is Carthage, which he appreciates for its consistently green conditions and overall experience.
Fisher’s favorite club is his putter, which he says “sums up the entire round” because it is where scores are made. If he drains a long putt on the first hole, he knows it is going to be a fun day. Recently, he has focused on improving his chipping, which he said has helped him save strokes and bring scores down. His lowest round so far is an 80, shot in a tournament this year.
In the classroom, Fisher’s favorite subject is math, and he points to Amanda Perry as his favorite teacher. On the professional side, he looks up to Scottie Scheffler, admiring how the world No. 1 can turn the page quickly after a bad round and bounce back with several strong ones. Athletics, Fisher said, have taught him lifelong habits such as eating right and staying hydrated, lessons he plans to carry well beyond high school.
