The Joplin Eagles boys golf team enters the 2026 season with experienced leadership at the top and a competitive group eager to solidify its varsity lineup. Under head coach Parker Howard, the Eagles are focused on consistency, growth, and finding the right combination to compete throughout the season.
Senior leaders Toby Ipsen and Jordan Bozarth headline the roster, bringing both experience and steady performance to the course. As three-time varsity letter winners, they set the tone for a team that values discipline and accountability. Ipsen, an All-COC West Conference selection, turned in a season-best 80 at both the conference and district tournaments last year, establishing himself as one of the team’s most reliable scorers. Bozarth adds another layer of stability, highlighted by his best round of 82 at the Carthage tournament and a reputation for strong character on and off the course.
“Seniors Toby Ipsen and Jordan Bozarth will be the two senior leaders of the Joplin Golf Team this season.”
Ipsen’s role expands even further this season as he looks to guide a younger group while maintaining his position near the top of the lineup. His consistency and commitment have made him a cornerstone of the program over the past two years.
“Toby has been a consistent piece of this program and has put in the work in and out of season in order to get the best out of himself.”
One of the most intriguing storylines for Joplin will be the emergence of Phoenix “Kai” Benfield. After spending much of last season on the junior varsity squad, Benfield gained valuable experience in three varsity tournaments and posted a personal best score of 89 at the COC JV Tournament. Now, he is expected to step into a larger role and contribute more regularly at the varsity level.
“Phoenix ‘Kai’ Benfield will be expected to take on a heavier varsity role this season.”
Beyond the top players, the Eagles are searching for depth to round out their varsity five. Seniors like Jayden Camerer, along with sophomores Vincent Smith, Landon Carter, and Hutch Wilson, will all have opportunities to compete for key spots. As the season unfolds, Joplin’s success will depend on how quickly this group develops and complements its experienced leaders.
