Webb City junior Jaxson Vice doesn’t hesitate when he’s asked where his love for golf — and life — comes from. It starts with his dad, the person he says has quietly shaped everything from his work ethic to the kind of man he wants to be one day.
“My dad inspires me the most,” Vice said. “He accomplished so much in his life with very limited resources. My dad has been through so much and never quit fighting for himself or his family.” “He has shown me how to be a loving, Godly young man, and a loving father and husband in my future.”
On the course, Vice is in his third year with the Cardinals and has settled into his identity as a steady, disciplined player who leans on his favorite club — the 7 iron. “It is just a really universal club,” he said. “I can also play it in a lot of different situations.”
That versatility shows up often at Twin Hills Country Club, his favorite course and the site of his best round, an 88 during a day out with his dad. “My dad and I went and played, and we had a great time,” Vice said. “Everything was just going right that day.” He calls Twin Hills “beautiful at all times of the year” and a layout that is “challenging but really fun.”
Vice said golf has helped him understand the importance of discipline, a lesson he expects to carry long after high school. “Discipline is a skill that is really good to learn early in life,” he said. “That way, in the future, you can be successful.”
Away from tournaments and practice rounds, Vice splits time between Franklin Technology’s automotive technology program and his love of music, whether he is on the drums or dabbling with guitar. On the course, he studies pros like Bryson DeChambeau and continues to refine a swing and short game he said have improved dramatically in the last two years.
