OUTLOOK
Entering his third year at the helm, head coach Nick Pfeifer believes this group is prepared to take a major step forward thanks to leadership, experience, and renewed commitment across the roster. “We are looking forward to the upcoming season. We have a nice group of upperclassmen that have put in a lot of time and commitment into their basketball careers and enjoy competing together. On the offensive side of things, we want to be aggressive and physical. I believe that we have a number of guys that should be able to produce for us.”
At the center of the Eagles’ attack is senior guard Fred Taylor (6-2, 175), a returning All-Conference 2nd Team selection who averaged 12.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists last season. “Fred is a super talented player that can and will need to do it all for us as a combination P.G./Shooting guard. A good defender, passer, and scorer, we believe he is ready to improve on a very good season last year and prove he can be an elite guard in the area.”
Alongside him is senior Brecken Green (6-3, 170), who posted 8.7 points per game last season. Pfeifer expects a breakout year. “I believe he is ready to have a tremendous season for us as a great athlete that can shoot the ball, as well as attack off the bounce. He continues to work really hard to get stronger and quicker and I think this will show; especially as an improved defender.”
The Eagles’ underclassmen bring firepower as well. Junior T.J. Willis (6-0, 160) is emerging as a key piece. “Has demonstrated the last year and a half that he can be a tremendous shooter and scorer. He shoots the ball with range as well as is capable of drawing multiple defenders and making plays.”
Junior forward Tucker Martin (6-2, 175) is another rising contributor. “Has the potential to be an important contributor. A physical player who plays aggressive on both ends of the floor.”
Character and steady improvement anchor the rest of the senior leadership. “Through great work ethic and commitment, Canyon Kimbrough has continued to improve as much as anyone in our program and I believe will have a big role for us this season.”
Pfeifer also highlighted senior David Bhend (6-2, 175)—a 4.4 ppg scorer and one of the team’s best defenders. “David has proven to be one of our best defenders, capable of guarding multiple positions. We will rely on David to knock down some shots as well as rebound on both ends of the floor.”
Senior forward John Jasper (6-3, 210) brings toughness and IQ after missing nearly all of last season. “A great competitor who has a tremendous understanding of the game and how he can be effective/finish plays.”
