Diamond Softball – Team Spotlight – Presented by Uplink

The excitement building around the Diamond High School softball program is for good reason. Head coach Kelsey Parrish returns seven starters from the state championship team that went 38-1 last year.

“We have a great mix of returning upperclassman and freshman who are hungry to fill the open spots. We are excited to kick off this season,” said coach Parrish.

Three-time All-State shortstop and pitcher Lauren Turner will lead the way. According to coach Parrish, Turner will most likely be an All-State athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball this year.

“She is an incredible kid; she is the ultimate definition of work. The kid doesn’t do anything less than 100 percent and puts so many hours in on the side. Her knowledge for the game is above most. Lauren is an exceptional kid doing exceptional things,” said coach Parrish.

Turner has signed with Pittsburg State University where she will continue her softball career. All-Conference centerfielder Kabrie Parmley, who played left field last year, is another senior coach Parrish is looking to for leadership this season. Parmley and Sara Roszell (Sr.) will shore up the outfield with Roszell playing in right. Roszell will also see time in the circle. Last season Roszell was named All-Conference and All-District.

“Sara is such an incredible kid. She is the perfect teammate, only tough on herself and quick to pick anyone up. Sara works hard for us in the circle and defending the right side. Sara did an excellent job at the plate for us last year as well,” said coach Parrish.

Also returning are junior starters Talyn Daniels who made All-District and Marrisa DeJager (All-District), and Aubrey Ball (All-District, All-Region). Returning sophomores Taelyn Reeder was also named to the All-State team.

“Taelyn Reeder is an All-State returning pitcher. She did an amazing job as a freshman last season defensively in the circle and offensively in the lineup. She started both state games last year in the circle and her bat was a huge factor in our state championship,” said coach Parrish.
