Carthage’s Addie Wallace – Highschool Softball Q & A – Presented by Stephen McKay Shelter

By Ken Hansard

Carthage High School senior softball player and student-athlete Addie Wallace spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.

VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?

Wallace: My main goal for this year was for our team to have a winning season. My personal goal was to improve my ERA.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Wallace: When we took first place in the Morrisville Tournament this year. We won by 1 run in extra innings against a tough Republic team, and the game ended after midnight. We joke that the game took two days.

VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Wallace: My catcher, Ali Wicklund. She has been my best friend for years. She had been my catcher in travel ball for a long time, but this was her first year as varsity catcher for Carthage. She stepped into a major leadership role on the team and did an incredible job. She made our whole team really proud of her.

VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

Wallace: I can entirely trust my defense. They are always out there grabbing balls that I don’t see how they get to. I am really blessed to have such an amazing team.

VYPE SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?

Wallace: I am a member of the National Honor Society. I have been in the top five percent of my class all three years of high school, so far. I hope to be able to finish my senior year with that honor as well.

VYPE SPORTS: What accolades (in any sport or activity) are you most proud of?

Wallace: I was selected twice as First-Team All-District (both my junior and senior year.) I was also selected Second-Team All-Region my junior year Second-Team All-Conference my senior year. I received Academic All-State for my sophomore and junior season and hope to again this year.

VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Wallace: Discipline. Pitching takes a lot of commitment to practice outside of the regular season, and you have to be self-disciplined enough to work at it even when someone isn’t reminding you.

VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Wallace: My travel ball coach, Kennard Bibbs, with Oklahoma Impact 07, told me to “use what I’ve got.” Sometimes, as a pitcher, certain things just aren’t working, and you have to adapt and change to keep pushing through.

VYPE SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?

Wallace: My pitching coach, Alex Brake. She has been my coach for a long time and has taught me everything I know about pitching. She has always helped me to become the pitcher I am and not just focus on velocity. She has also inspired me to help other young pitchers who are just getting started.

VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Wallace: I would like to thank both of my parents for helping me be the person and player that I am today. I would like to thank my teammates for being there for me both on and off the field, and I want to thank my coaches for helping me develop the skills that I possess and for turning me into the player I am today.
