Webb City sophomore Sebastian Aldrete has spent most of his life with a soccer ball at his feet, and he would not have it any other way. After 13 years in the sport, the Cardinals standout has grown into a thoughtful, team-first player whose motivation starts at home.
Aldrete said his parents are his biggest inspiration, pointing to the countless ways they have supported his dreams on and off the field. “My parents inspire me because of all the sacrifices they’ve made in order for me to be successful,” Aldrete said. That foundation has helped him navigate the demands of high school athletics, where he balances training, games and schoolwork.
In the classroom, Aldrete gravitates toward numbers. His favorite subject is math, and he credits Ms. Robertson as his favorite teacher. The same focus and problem-solving he uses in class shows up when he thinks about the game, especially when he looks at the field from a defender’s perspective.
Though he appreciates every role on the pitch, Aldrete believes defense is the most demanding spot. “Defense is the toughest to play because a mistake can lead to a goal,” he said. That pressure has sharpened his understanding of accountability and resilience, traits he says will matter long after his high school career ends.
“Athletics has taught me teamwork and leadership that I will definitely be carrying on as I get older,” Aldrete said. He enjoys the friendships that come with being part of Webb City’s program and spends his free time going to the gym or hanging out with friends.
Like many young players, Aldrete grew up idolizing Lionel Messi, admiring the global star’s creativity and consistency. Closer to home, he looks up to his older brother, Diego, who helped shape him into the player he is today. Surrounded by family support, classroom mentors and teammates, Aldrete is building a future grounded in work ethic, leadership and a genuine love for the game.
