When Bella Lankford first stepped onto a cheer mat at just three years old, she had no idea it would become such a defining part of her life. Now a senior at Seneca High School, the lifelong cheerleader looks back with pride on a journey filled with growth, teamwork, and unforgettable memories. “I started competitive cheer when I was three,” Bella said. “This season we’ve had some amazing highs. Overall, I’m super proud of the growth we’ve shown as a team!”
Over the years, Bella has developed a strong skill set that continues to evolve. “The strengths of my skill set are definitely stunting, but I’ve improved on my tumbling this season,” she said. Her dedication to refining her technique has been a key part of Seneca’s continued success on the mat.
When it comes to representing her school, Bella believes Seneca is special because of its support system. “Seneca is a great place to be a student-athlete because every teacher is invested in helping us succeed off and on the mat,” she said. That sense of community has made all the difference for her and her teammates.
Among those teammates, one in particular has stood out. “The teammate that impressed me the most this season would have to be Halleigh,” Bella said. “She has done a great job of leading the team as a junior while also growing her skill set.”
Before every competition, Bella has a mental routine to get in the right mindset. “I mentally prepare myself for competition by visualizing my routine hitting perfectly,” she said. Once the music starts, the laughter and energy of her squad take over. “What I love about my teammates the most is the fun we have while also working hard. We are always laughing at practice in between reps.”
Looking ahead, Bella already has a plan for her next chapter. “My goal for life after high school is to attend college for dental hygiene while continuing to cheer!” she said.
Her biggest inspiration comes from close to home. “The person who inspires me is my sister. She cheered for Seneca while also doing competitive cheer and I have always looked up to her.”
And her proudest moment? “Winning state freshman year after getting fifth at regionals. It showed all of our hard work and growth that season.”
