Seventh grader Gracie Ayton is the March 2025 Grand Deardorff State Farm Good Neighbor Student of the Month at Carl Junction Middle School, and her teachers couldn’t be prouder.
“Gracie goes above and beyond to be kind to others and help those who are lost,” her teachers commented. “She has helped Spanish-speaking students out with understanding the task or worked patiently with them on projects. She always tries to do her best in class and volunteers to work with others that some people in class might not choose.”
Vype Media interviewed Gracie to get her thoughts on being the March Student of the Month.
Q. How do you feel about winning the Grant Deardorff State Farm Good Neighbor Student of the Month?
It made me feel really happy to be chosen!! It was nice to receive the award, and I also liked being on TV.
Q. Were you surprised that you won this award?
Yes, I was very surprised!
Q. Your teachers nominated you for your qualities of compassion, above and beyond kindness to other students, and cheerful attitude in class and around school. What drives you to be a good neighbor to your classmates and teachers?
It makes me feel good to be nice and friendly to everyone. I enjoy being helpful and making people happy.
Q. What do you want to do in the future when you grow up?
I would like to be a writer.
Q. How will being a Good Neighbor figure into what you want to be?
It helps me pay attention to people and learn from watching their emotions, which will help me be a better writer.
We also asked Gracie’s mom Melissa Ayton if she was surprised that Gracie won this award, and she said she was very happy for Gracie but not surprised.
“She truly is so sweet to everyone she meets and has the biggest heart for people,” Melissa said. “Gracie is shy but still finds a way to say hello and wave at everyone she sees, hoping to brighten their day a little. I was very grateful that Gracie was recognized for being a good neighbor!!”
Congratulations Gracie for being our March 2025 – Grant Deardorff State Farm Good Neighbor Student of the Month!
