Edited by Carole King

With over 1700 Army JROTC programs in the United States, Webb City’s JROTC Rifle Team climbed to the top at a recent multi-day competition in Ohio. Team members earned both national and regional honors, including First Place in regional and national championships.

Sporter Team: Katelyn Miller, Johnathon Tatum, Aleena Arias, Lilly Othick and Avery Pennock.

1st Place Regional Championship

1st Place Army JROTC National Championship

Four of the eight finalists for the Sporter Team Regional Championship were from Webb City. Miller, Tatum, Othick and Arias all represented Webb City JROTC well and received medals.

Webb City took three of the top ten titles for Best Shooter in Army JROTC nationwide. Katelyn Miller took the top spot as #1 Army JROTC Shooter in the nation, followed by Johnathon Tatum as #4, and Aleena Arias as #6, nationally.

Precision Team – Abigail Riggs, Amy Klor, Brooke McAllister, Anthony Kulju, and Sophia Spencer-Abell.

This was Webb City Army NROTC Rifle Team’s first year of competition in this category and it was amazing that these kids even made it to the National Championship.  Not only did they make it, but they made their presence felt! The Precision team took:

3rd Place in Regional Championships, and came in

9th Place Army JROTC in the National Championship, securing another top ten national title for Webb City.

Individual Shooter: Abigail Riggs

Abigail Riggs represented Webb City as one of the eight individual finalists during Regionals and received a medal. In addition, her high individual score ranked 5th place in the Nation for Army JROTC in the Precision category.

Webb City Sporter Team Advances

Because they finished in top seven teams in the Army, the sporter team will travel to Ohio over Spring Break to compete in the ALL SERVICE JROTC National Championships.  In this competition, the top seven Army teams will compete against the top seven Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy JROTC programs.

In addition, because of her high individual score, Abigail Riggs has been invited to participate as one of five ‘at large’ shooters in the country to compete for an individual medal at the ALL SERVICE JROTC Championships.

We are all immensely proud of all 15 kids that went to Ohio to compete.  The entire Rifle Team has worked hard since mid-August to get where they are today.
