When the Lady Comets take the field this season under the leadership of head coach Sydney Hill, they will have a new look and some fresh faces in key positions. Coach Hill said the team is entering a new era in 2025.
“Marionville softball is stepping into a new identity this year after last year’s seniors paved the way for the program. There will be a few position changes, and the girls will have to endure some adversity, but they are a tight-knit group that gets along very well. We hope to win a district title and have a better record than last year,” said Hill.
That team chemistry will play a big role in the team’s overall success. Maggie Murphy has been a starter since her freshman season. Murphy carried a .512 batting average and a OBP of .565. Murphy racked up 42 hits and four homeruns. In the field Murphy was stellar with a fielding percentage of .975 with only two errors all season. Coach Hill said Murphy turned six double plays.
“Her stats are a testament to her hard work and attention to detail,” said coach Hill.
Brooklyn Holder is another hard-working player for the Lady Comets.
“She is constantly in a “game mindset,” striving for perfection. I taught her to slap last year due to her extreme speed. This year she will be lethal on both sides of the ball. She doesn’t always get recognized for all the things she does but deserves more attention for the way she always puts the team before herself,” said coach Hill.
Holder is being recruited by multiple colleges at the NAIA and JUCO levels for two different sports.
The future of the program may lie in the hands of Ashlin Carr. Carr is the new starting pitcher and will look to continue where her predecessor left off.
“She is a leftie who is dedicated to sport, playing year-round. We plan to use her spin and speed to catch batters off balance. She is also an impressive hitter and came out of a slump this previous summer. She is one to watch these next few years. She will be great,” said coach Hill.
