Carthage High School basketball player and student-athlete Lexa Youngblood spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.
VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?
Youngblood: My personal goal for this year is to be a team leader for the underclassmen and to play to the best of my ability.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Youngblood: My favorite memory is when we won the first round of districts last year. Everyone had us as the underdog, but we showed up and showed everyone who doubted us how we can actually play.
VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Youngblood: Landry Cochran has left the biggest impact on me because she knew how to push me to be the best and always understood where I was coming from when I would ask a question. She is also the most encouraging person that I have met.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Youngblood: My favorite part of being on this team is having teammates that are like sisters. I only have brothers, so having teammates like mine allows me to talk to them about anything. We all understand each other and can make each other laugh even when we are having a bad day.
VYPE SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?
Youngblood: Besides basketball,I am also involved in softball, track and field, and am a member of the National Honors Society.
VYPE SPORTS: What accolades (in any sport or activity) are you most proud of?
Youngblood: The accolade that I am most proud of was being named First-Team All-District and All-Conference for softball.
VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Youngblood: This sport has taught me that the time and work that you put into something is what you will get out of it.
VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Youngblood: The best advice someone has given me is, if you have a goal, you need to put your plan in motion and work at it, and if you do that, you will get there. It might not be easy, but if you want it that badly, you must be willing to put the work in.
VYPE SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?
Youngblood: My mom inspires me the most because she has overcome many challenges. Through everything, she has kept her relationship with God strong. She is always putting others before herself, and she prays for them when they are struggling. She has taught me that you have to work hard to be able to achieve things.
VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Youngblood: Thank you, mom and dad, for always pushing me to my limit. Thank you for allowing me to play the sports I love and for supporting me through it all.
