Carthage High School senior basketball guard and student-athlete Ashlyn Brust spoke to VYPE SPORTS in a recent interview.
VYPE SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?
Brust: My personal goal for this year is to be the best team player I can be and to be a leader for the underclassmen.
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?
Brust: My favorite athletic memory is all our bus rides as a team. They really never get old.
VYPE SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Brust: Presley Probert left the biggest impression on me, mainly because we played softball together my freshman year when she was a senior. Not only did we get along super well, but I also learned a ton from her in softball and basketball. She made my freshman year a lot easier than what I thought it would be and gave me a lot of tips on shortstop!
VYPE SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
Brust: My favorite part of being on this team is our team chemistry. We have played together since the fifth grade, and the memories we’ve made over the years are priceless.
VYPE SPORTS: What clubs or campus groups are you involved with and why?
Brust: Besides basketball,I also played softball, which was my best sport. I began playing softball when I was three. I am currently involved in DECA and National Honor Society. | got involved with DECA because I’m interested in business, and I like doing community service for National Honor Society.
VYPE SPORTS: What accolades (in any sport or activity) are you most proud of?
Brust: I am most proud of my softball career in high school. I was named Second Team All-District my sophomore year, and I beat the total runs scored since last year.
VYPE SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Brust: This sport has taught me to be responsible and accountable in my daily life.
VYPE SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Brust: The best advice that I have received from someone is to focus on what you can control and focus on all things positive.
VYPE SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Brust: I want to thank my family for supporting me through all my athletics in high school. I also want to say thank you to my parents for giving me this opportunity and supporting me in everything I do.
