Emme Rogers – Carthage High School-Tennis Spotlight-Presented by Stephen McKay Shelter

By Ken Hansard

Emme Rogers, a senior tennis player at Carthage High, has a lot to look forward to during her final year as a Tiger.  Besides the general excitement of being a senior, Emme has been nominated to preside over NHS and Carthage’s Student Council.  And further, after serving as an alternate for the Tigers’ tennis team for the majority of last season, Emme is now stepping into a full-time varsity role, and she seems to be fully primed to take on a leadership role there, as well, “As a senior, I’m so excited to get to know the underclassmen and continue to bond with the upperclassmen.  I would consider myself to be the ‘hype woman’ of the team. I always encourage everyone on the court to do their best!”

Rogers worked hard in the offseason to prepare for the opportunity to represent her school on the varsity court, “In the offseason, I practiced my serves in my free time.  It was important to me to establish and maintain consistency. I just want to continue working on my skills to be the best I can be for my final year.”

The Tigers have a strong core of seniors who will compete this fall, and Rogers is excited about the prospects, “We have an extremely hard-working group of girls, and I can see this season being one of our best.”

Rogers is a self-professed sports fan, and for this, she credits her father’s influence, “My father was involved in every sport possible – tennis being his favorite.”

Besides playing tennis, Emme is fully immersed in her school’s culture.  She is the National Honors Society President, the Tigers’ Student Council President.  She is also involved in show choir and the theatre. She is impressive academically, as well, entering her senior year with a 3.9 GPA.

After high school, Emme plans to attend college to get a degree in public speaking, business, or marketing.
