Railee Davis – Seneca High School Softball – Presented by Seneca H R Block

By Ken Hansard

Seneca High softball player Railee Davis isn’t asking for much.  In fact, her greatest wish is something that most athletes take for granted.  She just wants to finish her junior year on the field, healthy.

The Indians’ catcher was forced to watch from the bench last season after a devastating knee injury that sidelined her for the entire season, so her wish is quite simple, “I really look forward to finally being able to compete with my team!  I’m very excited to showcase my skills behind the plate and help lead my team to victory!”

As much as Davis wants to be on the field and compete, she also realizes that, as a receiver, she is the quarterback on the field, and thus has a greater role to fill, “As a catcher my role is very crucial in controlling the game. You direct plays and make split second decisions. I have a direct view of the field, which allows me to see the game develop and then to communicate effectively with my teammates. One of the most important roles is providing leadership to my teammates. It’s a challenging but rewarding position.”

The Indians finished last season 11-19, losing in the second round of the district playoffs.  With Davis back in the lineup, they are optimistic about a deeper run, “We’re definitely hoping for a run at the district championship.”

Davis knows that just being healthy is not necessarily going to get her and her team where they want to be. “Being injured takes a toll, not only on your physical health but your mental health, too. I want to have the right mindset going into every game.  I worked a lot on getting stronger.  Working on my strength and endurance is going to help me behind the plate. I just want to stay healthy and see what I’m capable of.”
In the winter, Davis plays basketball for the Indians, and she stars in the classroom, as well, sporting a healthy GPA of 3.979.

As a junior, Railee still has lots of time to plan for the future, but at the present time, she would eventually like to follow in the footsteps of her stepmom and pursue a career in court reporting.
