Neosho High senior quarterback Cade Spiva has some unfinished business leading into his final season with the Wildcats, “I can’t wait to be on the field and get revenge on every team that doubts we will compete. Our hard work all off-season has made the field a place where Neosho can finally thrive and do big things in a tough conference. It’s just going to be fun to go out and show how much we have improved.”
Spiva sounds like a man on a mission, and he appears to have the type of ambition to accomplish his goals, “My goal is to push everyone on the team to accomplish what we know we can accomplish. To be specific, we hope to win some playoff games, which Neosho has not done in a while. I have some goals for myself, too. I’d love to throw for 2,000 yards, and something unique is my ability to run – so 1,000 yards rushing would also be cool.”
As a quarterback, leadership kind of comes with the territory, but as a senior, Cade knows that a lot is riding on his shoulders, both literally and figuratively, “I feel like my role as a senior QB is to mentor our young guys and lead us to wins, but at the same time, I have to ride the storm when things aren’t going so well for us. Nothing ever goes totally to script, so the ability to move on and lead the guys past obstacles is going to be huge.”
As a junior, Cade was named All-Conference (Central Ozark) on the defensive side of the ball. While he won’t be playing defense this season, he hopes to replicate that success on offense. “I’ve worked hard on my ability to be effective in the pocket. I’ve always been pretty good at extending plays, so being able to deliver accurately from inside the pocket will be nice to add.”
Spiva also stars on the baseball diamond, where he received All-District honors and was additionally named the Wildcats’ MVP. Cade is involved in several clubs at Neosho, including FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) where he was a district champ in his event.
In the classroom Spiva boasts an impressive (weighted) GPA of 4.5. He is currently undecided on which college he will attend, but he would like to study business.
