Webb City High School football has a long history of success. There is a time-honored saying that success breeds success, and Jackson Lucas, a senior quarterback for the Cardinals, would like nothing more than to do his part to help sustain Webb City’s culture of success, “My part on this team is to be the leader of the offense and of the younger guys on the team. I also want to ensure that everyone on the team has the same goals so we can work together towards those goals.”
The Cardinals finished last season second in the competitive Central Ozark Conference. Their final record of 10-3 included a heartbreaking one point loss to conference rival Republic in the state semi-finals. With a strong nucleus from that team returning for this season, there will be a lot of reason for optimism in Webb City this fall.
Jackson appears to be very focused on what he wants for the season and prepared for how to get it, “I just want to be the best player I can be and for us to be a successful football team. I feel like I am always really prepared for all our games. In the off-season, I worked a lot on strength, conditioning, and my weight. I got into the gym a lot more, which helped a lot.”
Jackson, like his teammates, has a lot of pride in the culture surrounding the Cardinals’ football program, “Our school has had a few undefeated seasons with several state championships along with it.” Lucas would like nothing more than to see his class help to hang another banner.
Off the gridiron, Lucas is strong in the classroom, boasting a 3.67 GPA. He also plays golf for the Cardinals, lettering both years that he has played and advancing to state last spring.
Jackson’s life goals are as clear and concise as his goals for the football season, “Hopefully play a college sport and get a good education and go on to have a successful career.”
