Drew Vonder Haar, a senior outfielder for the Webb City Cardinals, recognizes that the end of his high school career is right around the corner, but he is determined, win or lose, to make the most of the time he has left: “Before the season, I was really looking forward to enjoying my senior year and leading my team to another shot at a Final Four appearance. Now that the playoffs are here, we have a shot to make a run, but we are going to continue to have fun with it and take it one game at a time.”
That attitude has served the Cardinals well. After tying for the league championship in the always tough COC, the Cardinals sat at 23-7 going into the playoffs. It is easy to see why Vonder Haar and the Cardinals have had success. When asked about a particular game that he was looking forward to, Vonder Haar responded: “Easy. The next one. As a team we stress the importance of taking one game at a time, so the game we look forward to most would be the next one.”
When asked about his role as a senior, Drew replied, “I see myself as a leader. It makes it easy to do so having a bunch of other great seniors and other players around me who also aren’t afraid to lead. We have a team full of guys who are determined to win and get better every single day, so that makes it easy. It is hard to find success if you don’t enjoy yourself while reaching for it.”
Drew participated in football and baseball in each of his four years for the Cardinals. He was named all-conference (COC) and all-district in baseball following his junior season.
Drew will be attending Missouri Southern State University in the fall and plans to play baseball.
