The Webb City Cardinals finished last season 22-15 with a trip to the Final Four and an eventual fourth place finish.  Unfortunately, then sophomore pitcher Landon Fletcher had to watch the action from the bench after he broke his elbow in April.  Fortunately for the Cardinals, Fletcher, now a junior is healthy and ready to help his team complete some unfinished business, “I had to really work this offseason to get my velocity up, so I got in the gym as soon as I could.”

Despite that injury, Fletcher still was able to help he Cardinals enough to merit their “Newcomer of the Year” award.   Still, Landon was understandably quite eager to get back on the field, “Our team chemistry is amazing. I’ve been looking forward to playing this game with all my friends the whole season.”

The Cardinals finished first in the Central Ozark Conference and are currently 25-7.  As for Fletcher’s role on the team, he says, “My job is to come in and record outs. I can come in at any time – starter or relief – and get guys out when we need it.”

Fletcher’s adaptability likely springs from his view of the sport, “Baseball is a very diverse sport.  One day you can do really good, and then you can do really bad the next day. I think our biggest challenge has just been bouncing back after those bad days, and we’ve done a great job doing so.”

Fletcher obviously feels like the Cardinals’ team, in general, shares that same ability to adjust to the opponent or the situation, “I think our team is really good.  Now, at playoff time, we have the opportunity to show how good. Six of the regular nine guys in our lineup have hit home runs this year, so we’re very well rounded.”

After high school, Fletcher plans to play college baseball and would like to pursue a career as a pharmacist.
