The Webb City baseball team wrapped up Luke Beverlin’s sophomore season with two losses in the Final Four. Beverlin, now a junior pitcher for the Cardinals, would love to finish off this season by returning to the Final Four. However, this time, the goal is to finish the season with a win, something that the Cardinals seem fully capable of achieving.
As of this writing, the Cardinals stand at 24 – 7 and finished conference play at 8-1, sharing the COC title with Willard.
In his final days of his junior campaign, Beverlin reflects upon his role with his team, “I believe that my role is to be the best teammate possible. To me that means showing up every day with the same consistent energy. Being a good teammate also means executing my role to the best of my ability each time that I’m called on to pitch. I’m just out here trying to be the best I possibly can be. I strive never to take a moment off when I’m on the mound because I have people counting on me.
While Luke knows that there are no easy wins come playoff time, he and his teammates are approaching things with a “next game” mentality. “I am really looking forward to playoff baseball. The atmosphere is always great and the competition is good. As a team we are playing some great baseball right now. The goal is to take one game at a time and win each one.” Hopefully for Beverlin and his teammates, taking one at a time and winnng each one can lead them to a state championship.
Beverlin, who loves to hunt and fish in his spare time, is still undecided about future plans but would like to continue his education collegiately. He would also welcome the chance to pitch at the next level.
