Webb City’s Brooke Hedger – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Roderique Insurance Agency

Webb City runner Brooke Hedger recently completed an interview with Prep Sports where she shared “My favorite part of being on this team is getting to run with such a fun group of people. My teammates make the hard workouts better, and I like that we get to cheer each other on and all grow together. Being a part of this team has helped me learn how to toughen up, face adversity head-on, and become a better person”.

Last semester, Hedger was also involved in “the Leadership Team because I can still help even if I’m busy. I don’t have a lot of free time, so it was helpful that the Leadership Team was mainly volunteering to do concessions or decorate the common areas. I spend more of my free time being involved with church-related groups rather than school-related groups”. She has also “volunteered a few times for school activities and in the carnival at one of the elementary schools”.

When talking more about athletics Hegder said “Running cross country and track has taught me to be tough and do the hard things because I will be better for it in the end. There was a point where I had such a weak mindset before cross-country races, but once I was able to make a mental shift and learn to have fun and enjoy what I was doing instead of worrying, it made running a lot more enjoyable. I think that discovery carried over into my daily life because it helped me to understand that I should be grateful to be where I am and enjoy the process”.

Going forward she is hoping to “start making money and saving for my own car. One of my dreams for this summer is to begin taking pottery classes. I’ve wanted to start them for a while now, and I think that it will be a good creative outlet for me. I also want to bake a lot more and try exciting recipes. In sports, I want to make it to state in all of my events and hopefully all-state. I think if I work hard and take care of my body the way I need to, I should be able to accomplish that goal”.
