Q&A with Carthage’s Lauren Choate – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance’s Stephen McKay

Carthage basketball player Lauren Choate recently gave an interview with Prep Sports.

PREP SPORTS: What are your personal goals for the year?

My personal goals for the year are to start using my time better and to become closer with God. my basketball goals for the year are stay more positive about everything and to be more consistent.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite athletic memory?

I think my favorite memory from basketball is whenever we were going to our district game last year and Maggie got sick on the bus. She was throwing up and I had to hold the ziplock bag she was throwing up in. This probably isn’t Mags favorite memory but it funny because some throw up got on Jaidyn’s dunks and she started crying. During this Zye got grossed out and hid under her blanket. Our bus and locker room smelt like throw up that game.

PREP SPORTS: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

I think the teammate that has left the biggest impact on me was Kianna. She was a great example of a good teammate, basketball player, able to have fun in the worst of things, friend, and overall just a good person.

PREP SPORTS: What is your favorite part of being on this team?

My favorite thing about this team is playing with my best friends and all the fun we have. I not only get to play with my best friends but with a bunch of other good friends and people. I wouldn’t want to spend practices and make memories with any other people.

PREP SPORTS: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?

This year I join DECA and Skills USA. I joined these because one, my teacher recommended them, and two, I thought it might help me to decide what path I want to take in my future.

PREP SPORTS: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Not only basketball but sports has taught me that people rely on me to show up and be somewhere on time. My teammates rely on me to show up to practices and games, just as much as bosses for future jobs will rely on me to be there.

PREP SPORTS: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Some advice that I have been given is to “yolo”, meaning you only live once. I remind myself of this because you only get to do your life once, so don’t take it for granted.

PREP SPORTS: Who inspires you and why?

A lot of people in my life inspire me, so I don’t think I could choose just one. Everybody inspires me in different ways to push myself to succeed in whatever I do.

PREP SPORTS: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

I want to thank all of my friends and family for all the support they have given me, especially my parents, who don’t miss much. they support me through everything. I also want to thank all of my coaches. They have all taught me something, encouraged me, and helped me get better everyday. I have had some great coaches!
